I believe people are feeling less confident in term for a couple reasons:
1) As indicated by the picture, people are living longer these days and they realize that putting money into term is about the same as burning it.
2) People are fed up with the conventional “buy term & invest the difference” philosophy because they have been getting burned by the market. The safe havens that whole life provide are a perfect match for many people right now.
